Fueguia 1833 Patagonia is a niche fragrance brand founded by Julian Bedel and Amalia Amoedo in 2010 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The selection of fragrances is divided into collections, which draw inspiration from the cultural lineage of the founder and nose of Fueguia, from his ancestors, naturalists and writers, and the scenic breathtaking landscapes of South America. Some wonderful examples are the collection “Destinos” (places in the world), “Personajes” (characters), “Linnaeus“ (inspired by Carl Linnaeus, the Swedish botanist who first published in 1753 an index of botanical nomenclature for each species) “Amalia” (dedicated to the beauty of women) or “Armonìas” (inspired by music), just to mention a few.
The perfumes are packed in recyclable glass bottles and small wooden boxes hand-made by a carpentry school in Patagonia, using the wood of fallen trees from Valdiviano Forest. The manuscript labels state the name of each fragrance. The brand Fueguia 1833 includes almost 80 creations from 2010 to 2015. These fragrances are sophisticated and multifaceted, refined with a touch of modernity, intense but never opulent, sensual with grace and elegance, fascinating and infused with all the passion of the land that inspires them.
Imagining a summer day and three dreamy views, I chose three floral fragrances that belong to different collections and that, in my opinion, could portray three different personalities of women:
Agua Magnoliana: A fresh–floral fragrance from Linnaeus collection inspired by the exotic flower of Magnolia Fragrantissima, an ode to the majestic Amazonian tree, considered the guardian of the rainforest. The notes of Magnolia, Jasmine Grandiflorum and Sandalwood create a delicate and fresh, crisp and wild flower on the first approach, then it turns woody and sensual in the base notes, albeit keeping alive the keynote of a petal wet with dew and wrapped in an aura of lush beauty. It makes me think of a waterfall hidden by thick foliage, between magnificent giant flowers lapping fleshy waters.
Amalia: An oriental-floral fragrance from the collection dedicated to women’s beauty. With a superb marriage of Uruguayan Jasmine and Asian Jasmine on a base of exotic and sensual Ambergris. The three souls of a woman: her exotic intense charm, her more fragile, poetic and delicate essence and her natural ineluctable sensuality, unveiled in the warm and velvety base note. It ‘a fragrance that enchants the soul and takes you on an exotic beach, between palm fronds lulled by the wind in the warm breeze.
Malena: A Floral–Musk fragrance from the collection Armonìas. A veil of musk and sensual warm enveloping notes of Cassis and Magnolia. A sweet harmony that has the power to captivate those who listen. The pyramid of fragrance seems to flow as the magnetic gaze of a magical creature who calls you, seduces you and takes you away. Malena has the breathtaking charm of a bay at sunset, when the last rays of sun reverberate on the water, the sky is colored in shades of indigo, pink and gold and slowly every landscape becomes languid and muffled.
The fragrances are distributed in Italy by Campomarzio70 in selected perfumeries, as well as in their stores. In Udine, my city, you will find them at Arte Profumo. Special thanks to Linda, Samantha and Angelica of Arte Profumo for playing the three Muses of Fueguia in this article.
