We are in Atri, in the center of an ancient ducal city. A few blocks from the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the productive heart of an old factory of 1900 begins to throb. Its lifeblood smells of plants and flowers, resins and wood, slowly flows between tubes and stills and condenses in precious cruets. Confluence of sacred and profane symbolism, of tradition and culture, of modern production techniques and craftsmanship, each fragrance tells a fragment of the history of an ancient city through potions of a charming character. The uniqueness of the creations of Angela Ciampagna reinforces the Brand identity that assumes as emblem the rose window of the cathedral. Each bottle, packed by hand and numbered, becomes a unique collector’s piece, proud witness of that olfactory tale and of the continuous dialogue between man and divinity.

The wonderful art project arises from a cooperation between Angela Ciampagna, founder and perfumer, and Enrico Maraffino, technical and production manager. In 2015, the perfume house made its debut in the world of artistic fragrance with HATRIA collection, from the ancient name of the city. The eponymous creation, centred on the notes of rose, caramel and oud, opens the scene on a muggy day of the thirteenth century. The salty breeze from Adriatic sea envelops DUCALIS and KANAT to describe the richness of a civilization that thrives by integrating the rural tradition with the most flourishing commercial activities. There, in front of the sea, loads of precious fabrics, balms and essences, fruits and flowers, parade on the carts of rich merchants to reach the market square and the stately homes, imbuing the air till the tangled network of ancient tunnels under the city (Kanat). ROSARIUM and LIQUO are, in turn, witnesses of a fusion of mysticism and superstition that characterizes the culture of the time. The first, song of incense and iris, pays tribute to the Cathedral rose window, dating back to 1260, the second, with notes of hay and liquorice, tells the roots of a rural culture in which witchcraft legends and pagan cults coexist with the sacred rituals of Christianity. Careless of human affairs, the dusk envelops the scene in a veil of fog that AER suffuses in a breath of wild herbs and smoky notes announcing the hour of dreams. The soul of NOX dances amid shadows and on the ancient village, illuminated by moonlight and by the gleam of lanterns, the rich and balmy notes of precious woods, wet with a floral and salty accord, whisper in the night breeze.

For over 2000 years, the ancient rite of Faugni is handed down from generation to generation(from latin Fauni Ignes), a pagan and peasant tradition which over the centuries has merged with Christianity, and that occurs every year in the days before the Winter Solstice. At dawn of 8 December, the city wakes up surrounded by the re-enactment of an ancient propitiatory ritual that pays tribute to the Faun, a mythological figure protector of the campaign, of flocks and woods. Tall bundles of tied reeds, lit up like majestic torches, light up the streets of the old town and parade through the alleys until the paved Cathedral square where they are laid to form towering bonfires. The CINERES collection, of 2016, is a wonderful olfactory representation of the mystical, magical and mysterious aura surrounding the Faun Fires and consecrates the success of Angela Ciampagna creations on the international markets with two precious extracts: FAUNI and IGNES.

FAUNI, a green and floral bouquet wrapped in a veil or resins, follows the eternal life cycle of nature represented by a delicate and fragile, tenacious and mystical flower. The fragrance opens fresh and lymphatic in the accord of green notes to reveal a floral heart where the Ylang Ylang supports a gorgeous gardenia Jasminoides grown on the Adriatic coast. A precious and lush flower that blooms among woody and incense notes on a bed of resins, musk and amber notes.

IGNES, sour, woody and smoked, intense and refined, it symbolizes purification and rebirth through fire. The note of Erba Tornabuona, ancient name of the tobacco, connotes the fragrance supported by a maritime wood accord (with a special note obtained through steam distillation from the bark of the plants that grow spontaneous on the Adriatic coast) and patchouli enveloped by precious resins. Vetiver bourbon marries a creamy sandalwood and a musk-amber base, sealing the noble soul of the extract.
