Normandy, a land rich in culture, history, traditions and legends along with wonderful landscapes and exquisite architectural works, from Rouen’s gothic cathedral, beyond the cliffs down to Mont Saint-Michel. Cradle of Impressionism and a destination for writers, dreamers, poets and artists, like Monet, who, ravished by the opalescence of a dawn and the play of lights between the laces and the spires of the cathedral, captured the instant with quick brush strokes.

In the heart of the region, in Rouen, Maison de Parfums Berry was born. The perfume house, founded by Cécile Vialla and Charles Berry, makes its debut in 2013 with the fragrance Eblouissants Reflets, created on the occasion of the homonym exhibition that brought together the great names of Impressionism under the common theme of the Water Reflections.

An inspiration that evolves and embraces the dream of a wider and more ambitious project, leading in 2017 to a line of 13 fragrances. Under the artistic direction of Cécile and Charles, independent perfumers Anatole Lebreton and Thierry Blondeau compose an exciting olfactory work divided into three collections: Portrait de Femme, five fragrances portraying life and personality of Joan of Arc, Les Eaux Normandes, inspired by the natural and architectural beauties of Normandy, and Tribulations, which evokes distant and exotic horizons by recalling Cécile’s childhood memories among the landscapes of Africa and Greece.

The ninth edition of Esxence, held last March, has seen the debut of Parfums Berry in the world of artistic fragrance. Although fascinated by the complex olfactory representation of the French Heroin and by Coeur Noir, a sensual and captivating amber scent of Tribulations collection, Violette Rebelle is the creation that won my heart. Tribute to a protected and endemic floral species of the region, the romantic composition interprets the different facets of Violet, portrayed in all its simple, touching and delicate beauty on a cedar and chalk canvas. The precious flower, protagonist in the heart of the fragrance, blooms powdery, soft and iridescent, enlightened by the transparent elegance of cyclamen, infused by the innocent sweetness of green apple and by an aquatic touch of violet Leaves, nestled on a velvety base of ambroxan and musks.

Introducing a form of art that is in itself a silent poem, Charles verses accompany each creation and intertwine fragrance’s olfactory evolution as to reinforce its emotional perception.
